Feral feline family adopts a woman and changes her mind about not being a cat person: 'I had always thought that cats were not as loving as dogs, but oh my, was I wrong.'

All the "I'm not a cat person" crowd just didn't meet the right cat.

We need to differentiate between two ideas here, one that we like and one that we don't like. Let's start with the obvious comparison, the idea that we don't like - when we say that people "haven't met the right cat yet", it's not comparable to people saying to gay people they "haven't met the right woman yet", for example. Because individual human attraction can't be comparable to an entire species of animals - it doesn't work that way.

So when we say people who declare themselves "not a cat person" haven't met the right cat to change their mind, we mean they were never exposed to a true cat's demeanor - how loving they are, their cute purrs, and the bond between a human and a cat's character that could be so strong. That individual demeanor and character have no place to be compared to a person's attraction to other humans, who inherently already can have individual demeanor, character, and behaviors that connect them. The attraction is a romantic predisposition that can't be compared to our cat-related statement. 

Now that we've got that out of the way, it's time to focus on u/OkGift4996, who claims she never saw herself as a cat person… until she met the right cats who changed her mind. Because that's the power of cats. It's that spark of audacity to gently declare their own adoption, as if they're saying "I live here now", or "Congrats, hooman, you've adopted me". And this one feral feline family definitely had the cat audacity to adopt themselves - and even turn a self-declared "not a cat person" into the most cat person that she could be.

  • Look at these itty bitty kitties! Such a precious pile of purrs and joy. But it's more than just a cute picture - it's a sign of full feline trust. You see, when a female cat seeks a place to give birth in - an evolutionarily ingrained action all female cats who are about to go into labor take - they look for the safest, most comfortable place to do it. And the fact that this cat chose this woman's house should tell you how much trust she has in her, her house, and her environment. It's like she says “I know you will not do anything bad to the kittens or me. I know you will provide me with a safe space, with no predators in sight. I know you will help me deliver, and I trust you”. And it's the most wholesome thing ever.

    around here). Ginger Mumma dropped Dot onto our balcony chair and we found the other sibling in a plastic bag. Sadly that one was too far gone and d d the same night. Dot was quite motheaten but Mumma nursed her and she had an indomitable character by the time she was about four weeks old.
